Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Everyone has days weeks like this.  Right?  I’m sure of it.  There’s even a book about it

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
“I went to sleep with gum in my mouth and now there’s gum in my hair and when I got out of bed this morning I tripped on the skateboard and by mistake I dropped my sweater in the sink while the water was running and I could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.”
— Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day

This is one of my favorite books to read to Sophia, and its true, everyone does have days, and sometimes weeks like this where everything seems a little upside down and backwards.  Eventually things turn around, right?

The BAD ….and the Good…..heck maybe I should just pick up and move to Australia!

The last few weeks have been a bit rough.  This week my big issue is that our internet has been up/down.  The wireless company we used switched our tower and its seems to be a little more complicated than planned.  My video has also been down and since I work, primarily at home, for a company that holds a large number of meetings over video its been a little rough.  Add in a few major deadlines and well my patience  is dropping almost as quickly and often as my internet seems too–no fun!

I’ve had some health issues recently, working on getting over them now but they’ve thrown me for a bit of a loop.  Nothing like a good wake up call to shake you around a bit.   I’m also having a birthday in a couple of months.  A big one.  That’s also making me think more about bucket lists, what I’ve done and what I’ve yet to do.  Interesting, rather interesting indeed!

I’m been working on some recipes, cooking a bunch, trying to get more organized, decorate and generally try to knock away at that list of household projects.  If you don’t start you’ll never finish right?   I’ve been reading a lot and thinking about writing more….I even have some plans.  More on that as it materializes.

There is another saying that is pushing me along –if you don’t like something change it, if you can’t change it change the way you look at it.

Not sure that’s going to work for my connectivity issues but it might help me make progress on some other fronts!

And just because a post is nothing without pictures and because without friends we’d all be lost I give you…..

Hammin’ it up

Love this dress, an old friend of mine gave it to Soph for her birthday and I FINALLY got her to wear it — she proclaimed it “itchy” and despite repeated attempts I haven’t been able to convince her otherwise.  Due to a little morning fit over what to wear I overruled her and of course had to take some pictures , besides I think the tights and turtleneck keep it from being too “itchy”.  As you can see from the pictures she’s not at all traumatized

Today was an icy, work from home, deal with it kind of day.

Sophia entertained herself all morning practicing her “karate” (no idea where she gets this fascination from) and doing stencils then she went out to play for a bit in the icy snow.

Me, I had tons of meetings but in between them I started exploring a new site I found out about from one of the blogs I stalk .  Its a new site called Pinterest and I think its so cool.  Its a place on the internet where you can “pin” all things that interest you and keep track of them for later.  I am “awesome” about having a million favorites but not having them on the right computer at the right time.  Inevitably they are on my work or home machine when I’m on the other one.  This solves that problem and lets me go back and find them, it also lets me see what other people think of as cool (which I also like because I’m really not all that cool myself though I’d like to be!)

Anyhoo if you are interested in joining let me know and I’ll hook you up 😉

Barbie, its what’s for dinner

Sophia got this kitchen from her Oma last Christmas (over a year ago)  and its been probably her most used toy.  Daily we are treated to culinary creations including all manner of wood and plastic foods and delicacy’s.  Her latest thing had been to cook up a “fricassee” mostly because of the name I’m thinking but it was always delivered with a signature plastic donut on top.

The other day I walked into her playroom to find Barbie, hanging quite literally from a thread.  When I inquired about it I was told she had gone on a “hunt” and Barbie was waiting to be cooked for dinner.  Am I supposed to be proud of her “creativity” or worried about her future as a barbie hunter? Troubling, a little troubling I’d say!

New Year, New Pictures?

I’m totally addicted to photography blogs.  I’m dying to take a class but lately my schedule hasn’t been friendly toward it.  I will figure that out and actually LEARN how to do all the technical stuff on my camera that I have NO idea about.   I’ve tried books and articles but I’m not that kind of learner, I’m more a “hands-on” type who needs someone to show me how to do things 😉

At any rate this local photographer is having a contest and I think it would be so cool to win!  I’d love to watch her in action, sneak in a few questions and get a great shot or two of the princess or maybe even the family one we’ve been talking about forever.

Won’t you check her out for me? 😉

Happy New Year!

Happy 1/1/11–sounds good to me!

I had ton of time off this year, from the 23rd until the 3rd and have been loving every minute of it!  We’ve cooked, we’ve baked, we hosted Christmas dinner, we feasted, we watched movies –Tangled is pretty good,  and football–GO NOLES!  Daddy and Sophia went on a “daddy daughter date” to the Museum of Natural History otherwise known as the “dinosaur museum”.  We’ve organized and reorganized and checked things off our lists that have been there forever but we did NOT take many pictures!

Here are a few of Christmas Eve at Uncle Lars and Aunt Janice’s.

Here are a couple of Christmas morning, if you look CLOSELY you can see the wee bit of snow we got while opening gifts.  It was beautiful but unfortunately stopped too soon–Santa brought us cool snow tubes and we were really hoping to use them!

Christmas Tea with Princesses

Yesterday we had a fabulous day starting with a”Princess Tea” at the Ritz and ending with a fabulous dinner at the Capitol Grille.  A “magical”  time was had by all.

Gabrielle and Sophia checking out the tree before entering the tea.

plenty of yummy treats!

The princesses then put on a little show, I’ve never seen so many adorable little girls sit so still!

After the show everyone got a chance to take pictures with the princesses.  As we waited our turn Gabriella and Sophia started a dance party.

First there were two

and then there were more!

and more!

finally we got our turn with the princesses

and just for fun here are two of my favorite pictures of the girls–total buds!

Sledding fun

Today was a perfect day for sledding!  Not too much snow but enough to cover the roads, we met up with our neighbor who has a GREAT little hill (and sleds to share!  -perfect for the little kids, and since the roads not plowed yet we had a little fun on that as well 😉

I have it on good authority that Santa might be bringing some sleds for Christmas….let’s hope so!

All is calm, all is bright!

I love, love, love the first snow of the year.  Roads are crazy, people are freaky but in the end its so peaceful and quiet.  Sophia had her first sick day in a year and a half so we had no where to go.  I worked, I baked and we watched movies all day, perfection!  LOVE!
